A Conversation with Nate Denton

Founder and CEO of Denton Dynamics and DomiNate Media Group. On building an AI company from scratch, raising two kids solo while doing it, and why small teams with the right tools will always beat the giants.

How did it start?

Since the first day ChatGPT came out, I could tell it was going to change the world. For at least the first year, when you said ChatGPT to somebody, they had no idea what you were talking about. We deployed it very quickly into Dominate Media, and that is where the first seed was grown.

The moment it clicked

We built a lead generation tool for a client. It scraped businesses by postcode, profiled decision-makers on LinkedIn, and delivered qualified leads automatically. One tool doing the work of an entire team. This was way before the ease of automation we have today, and it was at this point I thought this could be something much bigger.

Always outnumbered, never outgunned

I brought my two children up since they were two and three, single-handedly, and spent ten years with no help. In that time, I had to build a business from scratch. When we moved into the taxi industry, there were giants, marketing behemoths, and they laughed. They dismissed me in a very David and Goliath fashion. At that point, I went straight to the city they were based in and to their largest client, out of sheer principle.

We move fast, we are small, we are lean. I consider us a force multiplier.

Why Stoke-on-Trent?

Looking at what was available in Stoke, there was not very much. I thought it was about time we planted a flag and gave small businesses the opportunity to work with a company more akin to a London boutique agency, but at Stoke prices.

We will probably move towards Manchester and Birmingham eventually. But we will give them a chance. For now.

Why no competing clients?

We will not work with two competing companies in the same area. I do not feel it is morally right. We are guns for hire, but we are guns for hire with principles. It is an opportunity to secure us in your area before your competitor does.

What happens next?

What could happen in the next 12 months is just as possible in the next three. If you are a small company competing against another small company with a company like ours behind the scenes helping them 10x or 20x their output, then you are going to be in trouble.

We have turned down work in the past because of scalability issues: more offices, more people, more headaches. Whereas now my team wields an army.

There is no point us telling you we can rank you if we are not ranking ourselves.

We run taximarketing.co.uk and Denton Dynamics to prove we can do what we say. The fact that we have always been cutting-edge and deliver quickly has played a real part in our growth. But there is no way we could show people we can help them in the ways that we can if we are not doing it ourselves. So here we are.

Secure us in your area before your competitor does.
